Where to watch the sunset, ranked by how far you have to walk

Five real options, from a flat stroll to an actual climb.

1. Bunkers del Carmel

A 15 to 20 minute uphill walk from Alfons X metro. The reward is a 360 degree view over the whole city and the sea. Free.

2. Park Güell, upper terraces

The forested upper paths and viewpoints on the north side are free, unticketed and open all day. The Monumental Zone, where the dragon staircase and the mosaic bench are, needs a timed ticket booked in advance, and it closes before sunset for much of the year. For a sunset you want the free part anyway.

3. Montjuïc Castle walls

Five minutes from the cable car stop. Costs the cable car fare unless you walk up, which takes about twenty minutes from Poble Sec.

4. Sant Sebastià beach

A flat walk along the boardwalk, no incline at all. Free to sit on the sand and watch it from below instead of above.

5. Barceloneta beach

The least walking of all, straight off the metro. The lowest vantage point, but the easiest one after a long day.
